Welcome to Dove House Community Trust


Dove House Community Trust was established in 1984 and celebrates 25 years of commendable service. Throughout the years Dove House has provided many vital services and support to the people of the Bogside, Brandywell, Creggan and the wider Derry City Council area.

Many organisations throughout the city, for example Conradh na Gaeilge (now the beautiful Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin on Gt. James’ Street), The Nerve Centre, The Gasyard Development Trust, Gasyard Wall Féile and The Bogside & Brandywell Initiative to name a few where embryonic visions which took on a life of their own whilst housed within Dove House.

A community development model was utilised to ensure that the concept of self-sufficiency became a core ingredient in all provision which was made in those earlier days. The centre was officially opened in November 1984 by Herman Verbeek MEP. The staffing of the centre in those early days was carried forth by a committed, passionate and enthusiastic team of volunteers who provided a range of education and arts classes to local people.

Gnás Úr, A New Departure enabled Dove House to substantially extend not only the physical form of Dove House but the width, breadth and depth of its services. Dove House Community Trust became the leading community and voluntary sector service for advice provision in the Derry City Council area. In addition, its development of Youth orientated activity seen its youth project Youth First become recognised and celebrated as the leading youth service provider spearheading innovative and ground breaking youth led initiatives in the Bogside & Brandywell area over the past 17 years… read more
